The insurance agency examination is an important part of the process for prospective agents. Good preparation is less about memorising random answers and more about understanding insurance fundamentals, regulations, customer needs and ethical conduct.
Understand the training before you study
LIC’s published agency policy describes pre-recruitment insurance training for prospective agents and states 25 hours of training for a life insurance agent. The training is intended to equip applicants with insurance knowledge needed for the agency examination.
Follow the current training instructions given to you rather than relying on an old preparation schedule found online.
Build your study plan around concepts
Begin with core insurance concepts and terminology. Make sure you understand the purpose of life insurance, policy features, premium, risk, policy servicing and the responsibilities of an agent.
Then move to the specific syllabus and materials supplied through your current training process.
- Insurance fundamentals
- Products and policy concepts
- Customer needs and suitability
- Regulatory and ethical responsibilities
- Application and servicing processes
Use active revision instead of passive reading
Read a topic, close the material and explain the concept in your own words. Then answer practice questions and review mistakes.
Create a one-page revision sheet for terms you repeatedly forget. This is more useful than rereading the same chapter without testing yourself.
Pay attention to conduct and customer needs
An agent’s role is not simply to sell. Insurance guidance should take customer needs into account, and agents have professional conduct responsibilities.
This is why your preparation should include ethical selling, disclosures, accurate communication and customer service—not only product features.
A seven-day revision structure
If your training is complete and the examination date is approaching, divide revision into focused blocks.
- Day 1–2: core insurance concepts
- Day 3: products and policy terms
- Day 4: regulations and conduct
- Day 5: practice questions
- Day 6: weak areas
- Day 7: light revision and rest
After the examination
Passing the examination is a milestone, not the end of the learning process. Continue learning about products, customer service, documentation and ethical sales practices.
